13:00 - Epsom
I thought BERMUDA LONGTAIL shaped with lots of promise at York last time on her first start on turf and the step up in trip looks logical as she really has finished her races well.
Andrew Balding’s filly is the only 3yo in this contest meaning she gets a hefty 10lb in weight from all of her rivals in this race. That would make her the second highest rated filly if she had that 10lb behind Sparks Fly (surely needs deeper ground to be at her best).
She opened up 11/2 and has been clipped into 4/1, but I think that is fair enough for she is the filly open to most improvement in here. Her main market rival, Royal Dress is definitely the main danger in my eyes too, her effort in this race was good last year, but I don’t know what to make of her comeback run behind See The Fire.
BERMUDA LONGTAIL 4/1 1PT WIN
13:35 – Epsom
The odds compilers have had Docklands and Persica right at the top all week and they are barely separated at 9/4 and 5/2 respectively.
I would probably just favour Persica who I thought was very good when beating Ottoman Fleet at HQ, but I’d have preferred him coming straight here after that, rather than being battered in the Lockinge. Docklands on the other hand has had enough chances for me to be backing him at a short price.
The horse that interested me a touch was CAIRO who despite being on a 15 race winless run has put up some good efforts both in the UK and in Dubai. I thought his last run at Chester was a very good one when beaten by The Foxes and he isn’t far off on official figures. He is available at 25/1 and I think he is worth chancing today.
CAIRO 25/1 0.5PT EW
14:10 – Epsom
Ruby’s Profit is the market leader for the 3yo dash (11/4) and the case for her is very clear as she is drawn high and has speed to burn but you’d be brave backing her at those odds.
I am going to be sticking with AGAINST THE WIND over his next few runs as I’m sure this is a smart sprinter in the making and think a stronger race will really see him at his best.
He is drawn in stall six which is probably a negative but he has the pace to get handy enough which is generally key in this race.
I’d love to see him held up soon and that may not happen today but I think 94 is still a nice mark and I am happy to back him win only today in case he is just too good.
AGAINST THE WIND 6/1 1PT WIN
14:45 – Epsom
I have a pretty firm opinion in this years ‘Dash’ and that is that FAIR WIND could really be suited to this unique test (as long as he chooses to race).
This race is absolutely littered with pace and especially in the high numbers and I am hopeful they go too hard (especially if the rain comes down) and that may set up Owen Burrows’ horse to thrive. He has looked smart on a few occasions (wins at Ascot and Goodwood) when he has been able to pick his way through the field and he would be fine with any ground too. I really hope he sets off today as 10/1 is a big price if he does.
FAIR WIND 10/1 1PT EW (5 PLACES)
15:30 – Epsom Derby
It really does look a belting renewal of the Derby with cases to be made for so many horses.
I would prefer Pride Of Arras to Delacroix but his draw in sixteen, as a horse that will be held up would be a big worry for me – for all I think he has the best credentials for the contest.
You have to stamina concerns over Ruling Court and similar comments apply to The Lion In Winter – both I think are very smart but my be better over 10 furlongs.
With regards to a bet – I am going to take a chance on NIGHTWALKER who is a horse bred to improve for the step up in trip – being from the same family as Logician – a smart horse for the same connections.
He stayed on well in the Dante after a sluggish start and he also gets cheekpieces to sharpen him up today. He is available at 40/1, looks well drawn in stall five and although may lack the class to win, I think could be running on strongly late in the day.
I would also give Lambourne and Damysus a squeak at 10/1 and 16/1 respectively but I'm aiming high here!
NIGHTWALKER 40/1 0.5PT EW

19:15 – Doncaster
TWO TRIBES was a huge eye-catcher at York last time when flying home too late in the day – he tries 7f for the first time today and also drops down in class – he is 4/1 and should take all the beating.
TWO TRIBES 9/2 1PT WIN
