13:48 – Haydock
There is nothing like a sixteen-runner sprint handicap to start the day on ITV – and it will be ran on good ground despite the earlier forecasts.
I think the case for favourite, Fine Interview is a solid one as he is still unexposed – especially compared to most of his rivals here. However, his winning has come on softer ground which would have to be a bit of a concern.
That could also arguably be a concern for DAKOTA GOLD but you know he will run his heart out for you and he looked good on his comeback at Ripon when scoring off 85. He is up to 88 now but Michael Dods did think he would come on for that run.
He is still very well handicapped from his hay day and this mighty 11yo could still have more days in him. I think he is worth a few quid each way at 16/1 with 5 places generally available.
DAKOTA GOLD 16/1 0.5PT EW
14:10 – Chester
I really couldn’t wrap my head around this one – happy to sit out!
14:23 – Haydock
I think the Achilles Stakes is at the mercy of JASOUR who is the 5/2 favourite for this.
He won on his seasonal reappearance last season when winning the Commonwealth Cup trial at Ascot and I expect Clive Cox to have him ready for this. Conditions have gone in his favour as he needs good ground to operate at his best and the predicted rain would have put me off.
He was very consistent in the early part of last season when 3rd in the Commonwealth Cup and 6th in the July Cup, before his form did tail off in the winter. He has had a wind op and I think a return to 5f could really suit him too as he is not short of toe.
JASOUR 5/2 2PT WIN
14:40 – York
I think JM Jungle is certain to give you a run for your money here at 9/2 after being beaten twice by American Affair so far this season and he probably deserves to win another pot for his consistency.
I also think there is a race in Jumbeau this season too, but she refused to go in the stalls last time at Windsor and is hardly a tempting proposition off the back of that – but I could see her back here for the fillies' sprint at the Ebor meeting again.
14:58 – Haydock
In the opposite direction to Jasour, Estrange will have surely been hoping for the rain to fall. David O’Meara’s filly is two from two on soft ground but had a dissapointing run in between on a quicker surface. I think she is the most talented filly in the race but at 2/1 with the ground concern, she can’t be considered a bet.
15:15 - York
The Bronte Cup has cut down to just seven runners (whoever allowed this to be ran the same day as the Lester Piggott needs a kick up the backside) .
Scenic was an eye-catcher at Goodwood last time but I’m not sure she needs this extra distance and is no bargain at 7/2.
I could see Divina Grace going well and she is probably overpriced at 9/1 but I’m happy to leave this one too.
15:33 – Haydock
This looks a good renewal of the G3 John Of Gaunt – a renewal which surprisingly doesn’t see Tiber Flow defending his crown.
Owen Burrows dropped Alyanaabi down to 7f for his comeback as a 4yo and that worked a treat as he was a good winner here in the Spring Trophy beating the aforementioned Tiber Flow. He is joint favourite here at 3/1 with AUDIENCE.
AUDIENCE is surely a good bet here at as at his best he is a cut above as his ratings suggest. His win in the Lockinge always comes to mind and that was also first time out so hopefully now is a good time to catch him.
AUDIENCE 3/1 1PT WIN
